Land owners in the state will be able to access their property records — called 7/12 land extracts — online from August 15.
This long-pending reform will let people download their property records from two government websites — Mahabhulekh and Aaple sarkar.
This is part of the state’s ambitious Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP) to ensure transparency and to reduce fraud in property deals.
The 7/12 extract is a part of the land ownership register maintained by the state revenue department.
Under DILRMP, the state is expected to make a database of land records department, sub-registrar offices and tehsil offices.
“The online copy of the 7/12 extract will also have a QR code or bar code to validate its authenticity,” an official said.
So far, land records across the state have been made available online but only in a read-only format and only for official purposes.
From next month, this 7/12 extracts, can be downloaded with digital signatures and used as the official ownership document.
Maharashtra has 2.5 crore 7/12 extract documents that have to be digitised, the sources said. All the 7/12 extract will be made available in digital form and will be digitally signed.
It means people don’t need to go to the tehsildar or any other revenue department office for the document, they can get it online,” said a senior official from revenue department.“They will have to log on to the https://mahabhulekh.in and search for 7/12 extract by clicking on the options for division, district, tehsil, village followed by his/her name or survey number at the end,” he added.
